First time trying Fil's this morning and I won't lie, at first I wasn't sure but the family that owns and runs this restaurant are so nice. The service was great. The food and coffee were fantastic. This place was absolutely amazing! Makes me think of being at a cottage far from home for a weekend getaway, and waking up on a Sunday and going to a cute little diner. But it’s so nice to know that it’s close to home! It was my first time coming here with ... my husband. We were celebrating our 3 year anniversary from when he proposed. Also, his dad loves fishing, so I will definitely be bringing his dad here when he comes up to visit us because of the fishing ornaments they have there. The food was absolutely amazing! Even when I got full, I kept eating because it’s so tasty.. I will definitely be recommending this place to all my friends. And it’s reasonable in price too! Stopped in here for breakfast recently, based on the reviews. The place is VERY small, only about 10 tables, and it's VERY cluttered with things on the wall, and could definitely use a cleaning, especially in the bathrooms, and some updating and paint. You feel like you're eating at grammas house. ... Literally. But! The couple that runs the place are super, very friendly and welcoming, easy to talk to, they know everyone by name, and the food is very good, portions are decent and prices are fair. Some areas for improvement; The coffee wasn't very good, the breakfast sausage was "porky" tasting, and the home fries were under cooked and needed more crisping. I'd suggest some light music so it's not so awkwardly quiet in such a small place. The bacon was good, eggs were cooked perfectly, French toast was awesome! Overall it was a good experience. Stopping by Fil's Cafe is something that you have to add to your list of things to do if you are in Barrie. This place is absolutely awesome - so much character!
