Dalhousie Bistro - Amherstburg, Ontario

Very nice atmosphere in beautiful location across from Navy Yard Park. Host was extremely helpful and friendly. Cosy dining area with small number of tables. Great service. On the down side it is a very limited menu. But then again I realized later it is a bistro. ... So it is not your typical fare. Prices high for my taste. I had French onion soup which was nothing like a good soup to me. Cost fairly normal at $7.95. Small size but I didn't want more. I also had bacon mac and cheese which was tasty. Not overly generous size but enough for me. $16.95. And we shares a chocolate Danish. Not very good. They do have charcuterie and specialty cheeses. Maybe should have gone that route. Unfortunately we arrived at 1130am hoping for a nice breakfast and cappuccino and told their espresso machine was broken. Ok no problem we ordered lemonade and a chocolate milk. The drinks arrived and for 4.50 the chocolate milk was chocolate syrup in milk. When we went to order breakfast we were ... told breakfast was over...its now 1145am really it opened at 10am. Needless to say we paid our $8.19 bill and left. Very disappointing to say the least. Maybe dinner might be a better option next time. Read more

The quality does not match the prices. At these rates I expect something better. Perhaps chef level quality, but what you get is slightly above grocery store level food. The cheeses are good, and the location is excellent but portions are appetizer size.

Came here with my partner when we visited Amherstburg. This is such a cute restaurant. It looks like it used to be an old heritage house that's been converted to a restaurant. They retained the original structure, it's very charming! We had a lovely table by the window and watched the ... lake/shore as we sipped wine and nibbled on pate and cheese. The wine we initially ordered was off and I sent it back. The server promptly returned with a new bottle and the wine was great. This place serves french food but also more casual dishes (like quesadilla). It's a great place to have a slow, quiet lunch while watching the world go by. Absolutely love this restaurant food is always prepared perfect and the staff are always willing to provide great service. The new menu is great they have the best French onion soup and Caesar salad dressing. Very quaint little restaurant!!!!
